Is High Availability Indoor Positioning a Myth? Opportunities for Unsupervised 3D Graph Construction
Consumer devices, such as wearables and smartphones, predominantly operate indoors, with the expectation that all features will function seamlessly. However, ensuring ubiquitous location context for location-based services (LBS) availability everywhere on these mobile devices is crucial. Whether the device is at home, work, or during transportation, achieving high availability and seamless positioning—both indoors and outdoors—presents challenges due to scale, complexities, and often reliance on surveys or infrastructure deployment.
In this talk, we explore recent technological advancements that pair signal propagation with 3D graph optimization, aiming at high availability LBS. Our goal is to establish a data-driven approach for resilient and seamless positioning across various contexts. Additionally, we will discuss the challenges faced in device-centric LBS, offering opportunities for an evolving spectrum of technologies.
